GEORGE BORAN

Fr George Boran was ordained in 1968 in Ireland and came
to work in Brazil in the following year. He was in parish work and his interest in youth grew as he became involved with the large number of young people in his parish. He was involved in helping other adults work with youth and his insight into helping them form youth leaders was seen to be very helpful in making a change which led to real involvement with the social issues that were glaring and worsening in the population in general and with youth in particular.

He became co-ordinator of the diocese for youth work and then for the wider national level, becoming national youth advisor to the Brazilian Bishops Conference. He saw that all his courses and lectures were only reaching a certain number so he put his ideas on paper and published a number of books which went on to various editions, both in Portuguese and Spanish and later on in English as well.

After he gained his doctorate in New York in Fordham he came back to be president of the printing press which he runs as part of the work making good material available for youth work.
